Jeff Penner is an artist who spends most of his time making things inspired by the movies, music, and strange pieces of pop culture that refuse to leave his brain.

His creative path started with photography, chasing storms, empty roads, mountain landscapes, and forgotten places across Western Canada and the American Southwest. Over time, the camera became less about documenting reality and more about finding something hidden beneath it. That led to years of experimenting with infrared photography, digital manipulation, and other techniques that blurred the line between the real and the imagined.

Today, much of Jeff’s work lives in sculpture. He creates hand-painted pieces inspired by cult films, surreal storytelling, horror, underground art, and the dreamlike worlds that exist somewhere between nostalgia and nightmare. Many of his subjects come from the movies and television that shaped his imagination growing up, especially the work of filmmakers who weren’t afraid to be strange.

Jeff is drawn to characters that feel a little damaged, a little mysterious, or completely out of place. He likes things that are beautiful but unsettling, funny but uncomfortable, familiar but somehow wrong. The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is personality.

Whether he’s working on a sculpture, a photograph, or a new idea that probably shouldn’t work but somehow does, Jeff is always chasing the same thing: that feeling you get when you see something unexpected and can’t stop looking at it.
